Yesterday Once More

Numeracy

Music

Hi Listeners

It’s an easy theme this week – songs with numbers in their titles with one exception. Number one is a popular number for meaning ‘exclusive’ as in Bob Marley’s ‘One Love’ or the ‘loneliness of number one’ by Johnny Farnham in ‘One Is The loneliest Number’. Other numbers include 13 (Thirteen Women) by Bill Haley), 66 (Route 66) by the Rolling Stones or fanciful numbers like 2525 (In The Year 2525) by Zager And Evans. Both Sheena Easton and Dolly Parton sing the same song title (9-5) but the songs are different.

Two songs which stretch into the infinite are Johhny Mathis’ ‘Twelfth Of Never’ and Judy Stone’s ‘4,300,000,221 Kisses from now’ and Redgum’s poignant Aussie song about the Vietnam War (I Was Only 19). Finally, two songs represent mathematical processes: 1910 Fruitgum Company’s song about counting (1 2 3 Red Light) and Bobby Darin’s ‘Multiplication’ which doesn’t feature a number rather a humorous look at Multiplication in the kingdom of living things.

So as you listen see how many different ways numbers are used in songs and enjoy them!
