A plethora of Aussie music for your aural pleasure kicks off our weekday additions this week.

Seventeen-year-old Brisbane lass Lili Kendall took out America’s ‘Unsigned Only Music Competition – Teen category’ just a couple of weeks ago. Songs are judged on their originality, songwriting/arrangement, vocals, performance and overall likeability. Lili’s latest single, Run, is not only excellent, the video includes views of the JOY 94.9 building.

Adelaide producer-songwriter Luke Million’s Light & Sound is a gorgeous contribution to the resurgence in nu-disco.

Southlight is the house and nu-disco project of Sydney producers Andrew Young and Damien Goundrie. Their second single features Melbourne-based JOY favourite, former Bardot member and Disco Montego collaborator Katie Underwood. DJ Dan Murphy’s Mystery Blonde adds a little gay flavour to ‘Element’.

The Voice 2014 contestant Julian Simonsz was team Will.i.Am and touted as Australia’s answer to both Michael Jackson and Justin Timberlake. I Do It for You definitely plays to those influences.

Ricki-Lee has timed the launch of her fourth studio album on 17 October to coincide with her Dancing with the Stars appearances. A fourth single from the album, ‘GiddyUp’, precedes the release.

It’s almost 10 years since twin sisters Lisa and Jessica Origliasso, originally from Brisbane, aka pop duo The Veronicas, released their 4 x platinum-selling debut album and seven years since their last 2 x platinum follow-up. ‘You Ruin Me’ debuted at the top of the Australian charts this week, showing Australia is still loving the girls. With a subtle little remix on offer, we’re on board too.

The UK boy-band juggernaut that is One Direction continues. ‘Steal My Girl’ was co-written by Liam and Louis with a team of others, and is another guaranteed smash hit.

Finally, One Republic are also going from strength to strength. I Lived is the sixth single from their current album.

Set your alarm and tune into Rochén and Michael on the six at six for the newest songs to the mix, every weekday at 6am Melbourne time.
