Welcome to A Touch Of Pink, your home for all that is fun and a little bit gay in the world of trash pop music. Still more gays tonight including BLX2, Holly Johnson and Beth Ditto. There’s two great doubles from the Minogue sisters two Cerrone productions, plus new tracks from Take That, Gala, Ed Sheeran, Tavo ft Sofia May (who?) and M Pokara (from France, see above).

My Single Of The Week is ‘There are no miracles ’ by Bright Light Bright Light. aka Rod Thomas, a gay DJ/artists from the UK, now living in New York. It’s the third single from his 2^nd studio album “Life Is Easy”. Apart from being a beautiful song, Rod also puts out some stunning videos, and this one is no exception. See below.

What have I seen lately?

FILM: National Theatre Live: DV8 Physical Theatre: John : This play has an 18+ certificate, and is quite confronting at times. It is based on interviews with real people, and the John in question is a young man with drug, alcohol problems, serial woman partners, various children, prison etc. before coming out as a gay man. The very physical dance style of the performance is quite intense and wonderfully performed. However, the story is a bit schizophrenic. It starts with a narrative about John’s straight life and ends with his gay life, including visiting sauna’s. Inbetween is a detailed narrative from two men who own/operate a sauna and give a very vivid description of what happens in there. It’s a bit distracting but nevertheless is very informative. But it depends on how much information you can handle, fortunately I can handle quite a lot..

Show: Beyond By Circa: YCirca is a Queensland acrobatic company, and this show is all about finding one’s inner animal. The acrobatics are amazing, the sheer physical strength is phenomenal. The imaginative staging is also exceptional, full of artistry and whimsy. Their Mebourne season @ The Art Centre is now over, but they are worth tracking down. If you enjoy this type of theatre you won’t be disappointed.

FILM: Birdman: It’s the story of a commercial film actor deciding later in his life that he wants to pursue some acting credibility by writing, producing and performing in a Broadway play. On opning night an actor goes sick, his replacement gets drunk on stage and becomes abusive etc. It’s a rollercoaster ride through a theatre’s back stage. For the first half hour I wasn;t sure whether I liked this intensely performed script, but by the end I was loving it. I imagine it would be one of those films you either love or hate. Nevertheless some brave performances from all of the major cast members, especially Ed Norton pitching a tent onstage.
