Welcome to A Touch Of Pink, your home for all that is fun and a little bit gay in the world of trash pop music. A few Almighty tracks tonight, just to gay things up a bit, and newies from Florrie, Ne-Yo, Charlie XCX, Chicane and Marina and the Diamonds.

My Single Of The Week is ‘Desire’ by Years and Years (see picture above). They are an interesting new British 3-piece indietronica boy band. The have a new single “King” which I’ll play in the near future, but this is a great track with an interesting video. See below.

What have I seen lately?

Show : Six Dance Lessons In Six Weeks : Okay, it is community theatre, but this is a really funny and touching play about a gay dance instructor giving a 70+ lady dance lessons at her home. The dance instructor is, to be honest, as bit of a bitch to start off with, and the woman is the wife of a Baptist preacherman, so it starts off awkwardly, but over the course of 6 lessons the relationship develops. The writing is very clever and funny, and the acting excellent. Definitely worth a trip to Mt Waverley, and there’s free coffee/tea and biscuits at interval.

Below is a trailer for the movie version with Gina Rowlands and Cheyenne Jackson to give you some idea of what to expect.

Film: National Theatre Live: Of Mice And Men : This play is an American classic, written by John Steinbeck about 2 itinerant workers, played by James Franco and Chris O’Dowd. It is a study of the friendship between these two men suffering in the hard times of the depression years. Ultimately a heatbreaking tragedy, but beautifully performed and a masterful piece of writing.

Film : Fox Catcher : Definitely an odd film, based on the true story of one of the ultra rich Du Pont clan, played by Steve Carell, taking a strong interest in wrestling and starts his own training camp for young men destined for the Olympics.. He starts to become obsessed with one of the lads, and the film documents his obsession with a tragic conclusion.

Film : The Theory Of Everything : The Steven Hawkins story is taken back to his university days and deals lightly with his theory of the universe and more about his lovelife, the woman he meets, the children they have and how they cope with motor neurone disease as it gradually breaks his body functions down. It’s beautifully acted and although he turns out to be not quite as “nice’ as we may think, it still a very romantic story.

Film: Paper Planes: Sometimes you just want to see a nice film, and this Australian children’s story was quite good. It centred on this young kid and his ambition to be a paper plane champion. He meets some nice and not so nice people along the way, and learns the meaning of friendship. Sounds corny but it was enjoyable, and worth considering if you have some nieces/nephews that want to see a movie with you.

Film : Still Alice : Another bravura performance from Julianne Moore, of a university professor coming to grips with early onset Alzheimers at 50 years of age. You know there’s no happy ending, and it was a draining experience, but we owe it to ourselves to find out as much as we canon the subject because it will touch most of us one way or another.

Dick’s Top 5 Videos This Week

Lili Wood and the Prick : Prayer In C (catchy new tune hipsters having fun in which city?)

Charli XCXft Rita Ora : Doing it (two girls on the run)

Marina and the Diamonds : Froot (looking gorgeous)

Bea Miller : Young blood (great new talent)

Omi : Cheerleader (smooth reggae soul)

That’s your lot ….. now sashay away …
