Dennis Altman born 16/8/1943 is an Australian gay rights advocate and activist, and academic. Also born on 16 August is Madonna – style setter to a generation; Frenchman Pierre Seel – a gay Holocaust survivor; and T.E. Lawrence (of Arabia), archaeologist, military officer and diplomat.
