This week we recall the events of August 2000 when the Russian submarine, Kursk, blew itself apart when rusty torpedoes started a chain of events- ending in the death of 118 personnel.

We remember author Radclyffe-Hall for her infamous novel The Well of Loneliness, depicting lesbianism and pleas for tolerance.

Dennis Altman born 16/8/1943 is an Australian gay rights advocate and activist, and academic. Also born on 16 August is Madonna – style setter to a generation; Frenchman Pierre Seel – a gay Holocaust survivor; and T.E. Lawrence (of Arabia), archaeologist, military officer and diplomat.
