Been There Done That

19 Aug 2015

Show #666, Star Trek, Renee Richards, Chelsea Manning, History

Community, Gay, History, Icons, Lesbian, transgender

This week’s show is program number 666, since going to air in 2000. We talk about the superstitions with this number and with religions trying to explain the unexplainable, or modern scientific explanations.

We recognise the birthday of Gene Roddenberry 19/08/1921, the creator of the Star Trek phenomenon; you don’t need to be a trekker to have absorbed the concepts and buzz-phrases.

We talk about Renee Richards and Chelsea Manning, both of whom have transitioned gender, and how easy or difficult is such a move. We recognise a local transgendered icon. We discuss some interesting dates in Australian and International History to be recognised this week, including the founding on 22/8/1864 of the International Red Cross.
