Been There Done That

Foster Care Week, Citizenship, Coal, Great Ocean Rd, Lifts, PNG

Community, Gay, History, Lesbian

While Chris languishes in Paris, Gordon, Phil and David discuss a number of topics starting with prominent birthdays this week which include JOY’s own photographer Betty, Lesbian singers Tegan and Sara, actor Sam Neill and chocolatier George Cadbury.

It’s Foster Care Week 13 to 19 September, raising awareness and inviting people to become foster parents. Also, on 17/9/15 is Australian Citizenship Day which was inaugurated in 2001.

The boys also discuss the discovery of coal in NSW in 1791 and its relevance today, Captain Cook being the first European to see Aurora Australis in 1770 and the first hot air balloon to launch, with animals, in 1783.

Other historical things that happened are: on 19/9/1919 the Great Ocean Road project launched with a labour force of WW1 returned soldiers, on 20/9/1853 Elisha Otis sold his first elevator equipment which greatly reduced crashes and on 16/9/1975 Papua New Guinea was granted full independence from Australia.
