Melbourne based saxophonist Julien Wilson worked on his own individually styled music during COVID Lockdowns in Victoria. Coming out of that work are Three albums – 2 just released, the third due in 2023. (possibly titled “Way Back When”)
Hear Julien talk about creating these albums incorporating technology along the way, getting back to live face to face gigs – including performing solo (without technology) in the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Wangaratta for the Wangaratta Festival of Jazz and Blues; and the joy of getting back on-stage at the festival with the THIS WORLD quartet.
Julien mentions one effects pedal which caused him to sit entranced watching it for ten minutes while it did its thing! He also tells us about performing solo on stage – something that he has never done before.
The two new albums are called MEDITATIONS (meditative – lots of loopers and delays) and MUTATIONS (slightly weirder, a bit conversational – and mutated) – more details on both albums – available as digital downloads or Vinyl – from bandcamp. (also available in hi-resolution 24bit/96kHz download)
Julien Wilson was guest of Bent Notes on Sunday November 13, 2022
