It’s a spooky Monday night on BROAD, and Sonja is joined by Bailey from Sci-Fi and Squeam and Jess from Cherchez la Femme.
We’re celebrating Halloween in horror film style, talking about our favourite broads of horror, from Ripley to Carrie. Bailey talks about feminist perspectives on horror tropes like the last girl standing, rape revenge and witches. Sonja’s picks are The Woman, a torture horror film that ends with a hopeful message, and American Mary, a surgical-grade revenge flick.
Melbourne feminist institute Cherchez la Femme is coming to an end, after six years of talk shows, panels and other events. You listen to podcasts of their past shows on their website, and get on down to their finale party this Saturday.
This week’s BROAD Feminist News includes updates about male contraceptive trials; the release of Men’s Rights Activist documentary The Red Pill; Iceland’s women striking to close the gender pay gap; and comic artist Chelsea Cain’s decision to quit Twitter due to misogynistic harassment.
