With his debut single Yes! released in 2013 Canberra based artist Citizen Kay has come a long way since moving to Australia from his birth place Ghana. The aspiring song writer grew up with a love of hip-hop and initially rapped under the name Kay.

Having picked up 2 ARIA nominations with one for his EP ‘Democracy‘ (2014) and the other for ‘With The People‘ (2015), The Aussie wrapper is certainly fulfilling his ambition of making a mark in the music scene.

Citizen Kay is now part of the Counter Cultured family

With his latest installment ‘Belly of the Beast‘ Citizen Kay has reached new heights crafting an album   that he can say is truly his own. Having shared stages with the likes of Wiz Khalifa, Ice Cube and Public Enemy it is clear that Citizen Kay has grown into the artist that we meet in this instalment.

Taking some time out of his busy schedule we have a chat about the origins and development of the album and what it’s been like touring with Illy on his latest Australian tour.

You can catch Citizen Kay in Melbourne at the Northcote Social Club on Saturday October 7th
