Interview with Max Riebl from The Great Pretender which is on at Melbourne Fringe Festival

David and special co-host Simon Abrahams (CEO & Creative Director of the Melbourne Fringe Festival) interview Max Riebl from The Great Pretender – Alternative Baroque – Bach, Morrissey and Garland

The Great Pretender is on as part of the Melbourne Fringe Festival at the Wonderland Spiegeltent from 28th – 30th September. It’s described as:

“What do you get when you combine an angelic falsetto voice, an amplified 1950s guitar, alongside the greatest music of J.S. Bach, Morrissey and Judy Garland? Alternative Baroque. This World Premier brings together some of the most profound, contrasting styles in western music and the result is not fusion, it’s chemistry.
The Great Pretender combines the songs of Garland, Morrissey and Elvis with the greatest sacred music of J.S. Bach. The show features the ethereal countertenor voice of Max Riebl, who combines his mastery as a baroque musician with the pure vocal power and authenticity of an emerging pop artist.

Max has performed as a soloist in Sydney’s Angel Place, the Melbourne Recital Centre and Hamer Hall, the Forum, the Vienna Musikverein and the Royal Albert Hall. He studied baroque and early music at the the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis.

He has received top prizes in the Australian Singing Competition, the London Handel Competition, Herald Sun Aria and the Chicago International Classical Singer Competition.”

You have to hear Max ‘s amazing voice and so we’ve also included one of his songs in the podcast.
