Maree Coote is a Melbourne based graphic designer and writer who has developed the Fontigram in which she composes images of people using only the letters in their names. Her Fontigram exhibition can be seen in person at Melbournestyle, 155 Clarendon Street, South Melbourne or online

After creating various photographic alphabets for children’s books and graphic design projects including Alphabet City, Coote further fine-tuned her vision by moving beyond ‘found object’ letters photographed in the environment, to this typographic design device.

None of the letters used by her are hand-lettered, none are bespoke fonts. Every font used in the creation of an image is from a standard Mac font suitcase.

Maree is also a co-founder of Melbournestyle who are publishers, a gallery, a store and a design studio specialising in beautiful, original and meaningful Melburniana, since 1994. They have created a unique range of gifts designed in Melbourne, inspired by Melbourne, and made in Melbourne.
