JOY’s off to Sweden and you’re Invited to be United by Music
The Eurovision Song Contest is Europe’s biggest TV show and the world’s biggest music competition, with a TV audience alone of over 162 million people last year.
This year’s event in Malmö is gearing up to be even bigger than ever.
From 29 April through to 11 May, you’ll have the chance to be United by Music as Australia’s only independent queer media organisation heads to Sweden.
JOY 94.9’s Head of Music and member of the JOYEurovision team, Michael, will be in Malmö along with JOY’s Music Interview Co-ordinator, Bryan, to bring the excitement of Eurovision directly to your radio, phone, tablet and computer.
In the week leading up to Eurovision (29 April – 5 May), get up close and personal with this year’s contestants with a selection of interview podcasts and other content across social media. Don’t miss all the behind-the-scenes fun and goss via the posts on the JOYEurovision website and live crosses throughout the week.
During Eurovision week (6 – 11 May), listen in to JOY Breakfast and JOY Drive to hear the latest updates and some exclusive tidbits from Sweden. Throughout the day, we’ll feature some interview highlights and provide you with all the full, uncut interviews via the JOYEurovision podcast feed on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or the JOY website.
Melbourne’s only Eurovision radio show, JOYEurovision, continues every Saturday at 6pm AEST, with Michael live from Malmö and supported in the studio by Io and some very special guests. Be part of the fun as they preview every song in this year’s competition and give you a chance to have your voice heard by voting.
It doesn’t end there: Australia’s most uplifting music mix gets a touch of Euro-sparkle as your favourite Eurovision hits, along with some of this year’s bangers, get a play during your work day.
“Sweden always puts on an amazing show and this year is no different,” says Michael. “I can’t wait to meet all of the artists vying for the chance to win that big trophy and sharing their stories with JOY’s family of listeners.
“Being able to bring the colour of this amazing competition to Australia is a privilege. And being able to do it with the support of Bryan in Sweden and Io and the team in Melbourne makes it even better. The only thing that could top it all is Electric Fields getting to the top spot of the scoreboard on that Saturday night!
“We truly are the home of all things Eurovision for Australia’s queer communities at JOY and we’re proud to share it all with Melbourne, Australia and the world, both on air and online, 24/7.”
Be #UnitedByMusic by keeping it locked on to JOY.
