Ro Allen reflects on last years YES Announcement

‘We have to remember that that day was very painful. As much excitement as there was on the day, that was a postal survey that we never needed to have and our community should never have needed to go through. I think there will be generational trauma and pain for our communities because of that.’

Victoria’s Gender & Sexuality Commissioner Ro Allen drops by MAD Wednesday and joins Dean for a reflection on the YESiversary, as they discuss what it was like a year ago when we found out the result of the unnecessary postal survey.

While we are all so proud of the result after a huge amount of work by many in our communities stepping up and having conversations, we have to remember the trauma that so many in our communities felt and the further marginalisation that it created to other members of our communities.

Thanks to Ro for taking the time to come and talk to us about this and reflect on what this means to them.
