Montreal indie-folk artist Leif Vollebekk was recently in Australia and he popped into JOY for a chat with Katie. They talk about his love of Bob Dylan and his deep knowledge of popular music, their mutual love of k.d. lang, his latest album New Ways, how he met Australia’s Angie McMahon and ended up touring with her in 2019, and building an audience here; and they go deep on the recording and production of Leif’s magnificent song ‘Transatlantic Flight’ and how changing the beat slightly made a huge difference to the final song. There’s also a quick recap of Katie’s time at the 2020 Port Fairy Folk Festival and a couple of new tracks! Here is the playlist:
- Lilacs – Waxahatchee
- It Hurts Me Too – James Thomson
- Never Be Back – Leif Vollebekk
- Transatlantic Flight – Leif Vollebekk
