It’s a jam-packed week of new music to JOY as we continue to bring you Melbourne’s most uplifting music mix.

Melburnian Missy Higgins has been making music since 2001, and her last album, Oz, peaked at #3 on the Australian album chart in 2014. This bi singer-songwriter is back with a new album, Solastalgia, due 27 April. ‘Cemetery’ is the second single from the album. It’s not your typical Missy affair, with an up-tempo sound that will have you tapping your feet with delight. We think you’ll enjoy it.

They may have decided against performing at the Commonwealth Games opening ceremony, but Australia still loves Sheppard. They’re following up their platinum-selling single Coming Home with ‘Riding the Wave’, the fourth single from their forthcoming album Watching the Sky, due 8 June. It’s a little stripped back compared to ‘Coming Home’ but still one to sing along to as you get your daytime party started with JOY.

Sydney-based producer POOLCLVB launched himself onto the local scene with his ARIA club chart hit Always early last year. He’s back with a cool fusion of house and summer sounds in ‘Freefall’. Featuring the vocals of Queenslander Doolie, this is the sort of music you want in the background on a sunny autumn weekend.

The countdown to Eurovision continues with two additions to the mix from this year’s contest. Azerbaijan and Israel are both competing in the first semifinal, and both have sent fierce women to represent them. Aisel is on her way to Lisbon for Azerbaijan, and the animal lover is singing ‘X My Heart’, written by a Greek and a Swede. There may be some dodgy lyrics about tearing down firewalls and asking Luna to be mooned up, but we think you’ll enjoy it. Israel has selected Netta to be this year’s rep and she’s the current favourite. TOY has everything from chicken noises to lyrics about empowering women. Add the fact that gay composer Doron Medalie co-wrote the song, and we have a brand-new Eurovision party staple.

Swedish teens Samuel Brandt and Tobias Danielsson met on Soundcloud before they ended up attending the very same high school. They decided to make some music together and NOTD was born. The duo have released ‘I Wanna Know’ along with Bea Miller, who came ninth on the US X Factor in 2012. Give it a few listens and we think you’ll be wanting more from this new Swedish partnership.

Back in 2011, Miley Cyrus ran an online singing competition and Sabrina Carpenter came third. She decided to go into acting, though, and it wasn’t until 2014 that she went back to singing. With some American chart success under her belt, she’s teamed up with English DJ and producer Jonas Blue for ‘Alien’. We’ve gone with the remix from English-German DJ duo M-22 to give you a lift during your workday.
