Melbourne-based singer-songwriter Kira Puru has launched herself into 2020 with a big pop song about love. Idiot describes those times when you’re in love and can’t stop yourself from doing destructive things. The queer singer-songwriter clocked up the miles while she was touring with Peking Duk and YUNGBLUD last year and found success with the release of her debut EP.

We’re big fans of Ben Hazlewood at JOY, having followed his journey since his appearance on The Voice Australia in 2012. The Melbourne-based singer-songwriter is releasing his debut album, Bloodlines, later this year and this week we’re treated to another beautiful single from it. Themes of love, comfort and peace permeate Lay Me Down and the song full of lush harmonies gives this out-and-proud artist a solid start to 2020.

Sydney duo Midnight Pool Party have turned the funk right up with their new release, ‘Nonchalant’. Oliver Dela Cruz and gay singer Darren Morilla have promised some big tunes in 2020 following the release of their Motions EP last year. We think you’ll have your hands in the air and be dancing along to this one.

Last year, George Sheppard was in Sweden writing music with some old hands, including Tania Doko. Sitting in his hotel room, he took a call from his partner in Australia and suddenly had an intense desire to hug her. From this, ‘Come Back’ was born. It’s the fifth release in Sheppard‘s year-long project to drop a new single every month, and it channels all the feels.

Gab and her queer sister, Vic, are REYNA and they’ve been taking the American music scene by storm, especially since releasing The Way I Love You late last year. They reminisce about better times in their brand-new single, Coachella, bringing a touch of their Mexican heritage to the track thanks to a mariachi-style trumpet. With their debut EP on its way, we’re proud to have supported these Milwaukee sisters since 2018 and can’t wait to hear what’s next.

Dominic Harrison originally showed off his creative side acting in popular British soapies Emmerdale and The Lodge before launching himself as YUNGBLUD in 2017. Since then, the singer-songwriter has been writing and performing songs that rail against society and the establishment and has spoken about his openness to his sexuality being fluid. The Brit has just released ‘Weird!’, and while it was written before the pandemic took hold, he’s used quarantine to his advantage in the video.

‘Ride It’ was one of the summer’s biggest hits, and the Kosovan DJ behind it is back with something new. ‘Secrets’ is the brand-new single from Regard, featuring the smooth vocals of English singer RAYE. It has Regard’s familiar sound, but can it become as big as his mega rework? Time will tell!

He’s been hiding away since his debut album peaked at #9 on the Aussie album chart in 2016, but thankfully he’s back. Bearded English singer Jack Garratt has spent 2020 slowly releasing his new album, Love, Death & Dancing, across four volumes, culminating in its full release next month. ‘Better’ is the second single from the album and is made to put a smile on your face. While the album is described as one of “Dance music for people who don’t want to go out”, we think you’ll want to throw the blinds open and put on a show for the neighbours when you hear this during the day.
