We love bringing you music that you might not hear elsewhere, and this week’s daytime additions are prime examples of that.

Sydney’s Brendan Maclean has returned to uplifting disco in his brand-new single. The out-and-proud singer-songwriter-performer went deep and meaningful during 2019 through his album And the Boyfriends, but ‘Easy Love’ pivots to his silly, goofy and happy side. It’s the kind of bop we all need right now!

Dylan Bowes and out-and-proud James Maas have been writing and producing for artists galore while they’ve been based in the US. Now as RIP Youth, they’ve teamed up with fellow Aussies Bombs Away to drop their debut single. ‘You Love’ features the vocals of LA-based Australian singer Reigan to deliver a track full of positivity and beats to dance to.

The last time bisexual singer Halsey was part of an EDM track was in 2016, when she sang on The Chainsmokers’ hit ‘Closer’. Thankfully the American is back in the dance music scene, dropping a collab with Marshmello called ‘Be Kind’. It has the American DJ-producer’s fingerprints all over it, but doesn’t go too heavy in the club direction. We think it’s one you’ll warm to.

Harmonica isn’t usually an instrument you’ll hear during the day on JOY, but sometimes we like to surprise you. The mouth organ is front and centre in ‘Haulin’, the latest release from Perth-based DJ WasteLand. Known by that city’s queer community as one of the resident DJs at LGBTI club ‘The Court’, Matt Riley was hoping to move across to Sydney but had his plans scuttled thanks to COVID-19. Western Australian singer Sydnee Carter lends her vocals to the single and we reckon you’ll enjoy the country feel with a few listens.

Swedish group Nause was formed in 2008 and now consists of Jacob Criborn and Leonard Scheja. The duo are known for their dance music releases, and ‘Be Right Back’ fits the mould. It features Swedish Idol alum WILHELM and has a hook that’s sure to make this song keep coming back to you.

Rod Thomas aka Bright Light Bright Light is soon to release his latest album, Fun City, full of collabs with fellow queer musicians. The second single from the album is ‘Sensation’, alongside Scissor Sisters’ Jake Shears. It’s a rainbow full of sweetness and delight, and perfect for JOY.

Choirs, drops and synths punctuate the latest offering from Belgian producer Lost Frequencies, Dutch duo Zonderling and British-Zimbabwean singer Kelvin Jones. ‘Love to Go’ is the second collab between Lost Frequencies and Zonderling, a follow-up to 2017’s Crazy. With its mix of sounds, this song will bring a point of difference to the daytime sound.

Love disco? Then you’ll love the latest from Italian DJ Birdee and British DJ Nick Reach Up! Featuring the golden vocals of American legend Barbara Tucker, ‘Free Yourself’ delivers 70s sounds in spades. Thanks to the added glitterball sparkle from British duo Full Intention, we reckon you’ll be reaching for your fro and flares when you hear this one!

Plus, make sure you listen out for the Bad Paris remix of Starley‘s ‘Arms Around Me’ during the day. The remix delivers a bright new take on the bop from the bisexual Aussie singer and will get you dancing while you’re at work or on the way home.
