Welcome to show # 23. This is the first of our 2 hour shows for the summer period and we are kicking it off with a walk down memory lane, specifically the 80’s New Wave lane. New wave music is a musical genre of pop/rock created in the late 1970s to mid-1980s with ties to 1970s punk rock.
I must admit this is a little bit of personal indulgence. Every single track on tonight’s show is quite precious and holds many dear memories. Not to mention the fact that each song is a perfect example of brilliant songwriting combined with amazing production.

Common characteristics of new wave music, aside from its punk influences, include the use of synthesizers and electronic productions, the importance of styling and the arts, as well as a great amount of diversity, which is sadly lacking in today’s modern music.

New wave has been called one of the definitive genres of the 1980s, after it grew partially fixated on The Buggles’ “Video Killed the Radio Star” which is only one of the best songs ever written by one of the planet’s foremost music producers, Trevor Horn.

While putting together the playlist for this show it became clear that I’m going to have to do a few more New Wave shows to cover the songs that I want to show you. I ended up with about 7 hours worth of music.
