We welcome the New Year and another chapter for JOY 94.9  Macca is our host for the first shops of the year and is joined by Mark Adams.

First on the agenda is a discussion about the loss of another AirAsia plane and all of its passengers, somewhere in the Java Sea.  We also put American Cardinal and Chaplain to the Knights of Malta, Cardinal Raymond Leo Burke under our gaze as he has been demoted by Pope Francis for his opposition to Church reform. He is known to be incredibly ostentatious when it comes to his robes and hats – flamboyant is a word that has been used.

raymond leo burkeAdrian joins us from the Bureau of Meteorology to warn us about the dangers of the extreme heat we are experiencing and how dangerous the weather is for bush fires. We look at how we feel after the festive season and how we can cope with seasonal or ongoing depression. Georgie Harmond from beyondblue offers some fantastic advice to those who have had a lonely holiday period an are struggling.

Shane Healy is the former General Manager of 3AW and fairfax media and shared his knowledge of radio and his confidence that it will never die. Video will never kill our radio stars. Josh Dowling takes a look at motoring and what the year ahead looks like in that sector -m including trade figures and cheaper imports thanks tot he free trade agreement and the declining Aussie dollar.

Given that tennis will dominate our collective psyche over the summer, we chat to Ben Rothenberg, Tennis writer for the New York Times! he is winging his way to Australia and will join us in the studio to preview our Grand Slam kicking off on January 19. And be warned, our Exec Producer Pete Dillon might just be a little obsessed with the racquet and ball game and might pretend he knows a lot.

A terrific program to kick off our very first show for 2015.
