Escape From Syria

News & Politics, Podcast, Society & Culture

Live from Peter Dutton’s South Pacific Holiday Hideaway, Pete is joined by Tas and journo Kathy Anderson (but no Macca, as he’s indisposed to Germany).

They begin with the latest performances from the circus called Parliament.

Rev. Tim Costello, CEO of World Vision Australia, weighs in on the humanitarian crisis that Syria faces and how the war is affecting migration to others, particularly Australia.

Dr. John Houston, live from Cairns, is asked about the Abbot Government’s flipped decision to accept certain immigrants from Syria.

Associate Prof. Alex Riley is asked if 12,000 prioritised Syrians is enough people to be allowed asylum.

As always, there’s a change of pace for the second hour, as Pete and Kathy talk about the tennis upset as well as support for Caitlin Jenner’s views.

Brenda Appleton, member of a new LGBT task force, is brought in explain what this government sanctioned initiative hopes to accomplish.

Geraldine Quinn, mastermind of MDMA (Modern Day Maiden, not that MDMA!), dishes on her new show at the Melbourne Fringe Festival and on her status as black sheep of her family.

The Lavazza Italian Festival has come to Melbourne, and Guinevere Kelly has come in to give a preview of the films on display and the theatres they’re being played at.

Aired on 12th of October, 2015.
