Our trio have many guests today but we do have a film review about halfway through. Brendan saw a preview of a doco showing 4 to 6 December at the Indie Village Doco Film Fest at the Lido and Cameo Cinemas. It was Frame By Frame about Afghan photojournalists in Afghanistan. It’s harrowing but also hopeful and B was able to get a sense of the culture. At the end David talks about Melbourne Art Trams where you can vote on your favourite one(s).

Special Guests today are:

01:00 to 15:02 mins– Rain Fuller is an Actor and Writer and also works with the media. She’s acted in theatre and film and has co-written screen content the past few years such as a webseries called Two Refugees and a Blonde. Rain is involved in a film called Pretty Good Friends, directed by Sophie Townsend who is also a guest. Sophie was inspired by low-budgeted independent US cinema called the Mumblecore Movement which doesn’t let money get in the way of making a film. They used Melbourne as a backdrop, showing a lot of it. They had a crew of 3 that did many jobs each and the actors took part in character creation. They learnt a lot just by doing it. The film is a dramedy about an emotional affair and it’s showing tonight (29 November) in the Made In Melbourne (MIM) film festival at the Backlot Studios in Southbank at 5.00pm. The film has been shown locally and in the US and reviews have been good. For more info see their Facebook page.

15:36 to 27:50 mins—Darcy Wallace is an enterprising young dancer who moved to London right after graduating in contemporary dance from VCA. She was freelancing there as there is a lot of opportunity, and it is a gateway to Europe. She met 2 choreographers in Venice (Xavier Le Roy and Scarlet Yu) who asked her to come back to Australia for a project they were doing in Sydney where 18 dancers performed in the nude— in lots of 12 to 13– for 6 hours altogether. Patrons came in and left as they pleased. The dance movement ‘vocabulary’ was non-human so it was essential to not have clothes on. Next, she will be doing a workshop in Melbourne with Xavier and Scarlet. Info is on the Dancehouse website. Next week Darcy will return to London for a workshop and then she’s off to India for a yoga teaching course. Her Facebook page and Instagram is under darcyjaynewallace.

8:24 to 42:40mins—Theatre performer Adam Hembree is from the US and is now based in Melbourne. He has loved Shakespeare since childhood, and he also loves improvise, so he merged his 2 passions when he co-founded an improvise Shakespeare company called Soothplayers with Ryan Patterson earlier this year. They gathered a great group of people who also loved improvise and Shakespeare. Adam is very steeped in Shakespeare as he studied him heavily when doing his Masters and teaches it at Melbourne Uni. He and his group don’t plan anything, wear gender neutral Shakespearean tops and can use a title suggested from the audience to steer their improv. Audience participation is important. They’ll be performing at The Butterfly Club 15 to 20 December at 8.30pm.

51:43 to 1:13:07 mins—Tony Cardamore is an Interior Designer who has done this all his professional life specialising in residential interiors. He talks about trends over the decades, famous designers, colour, fabrics and wallpaper as art, the importance of clients having a ‘direction’ and pitfalls in decoration. Tony had gathered many sample books over the years without ever throwing any out, so he ended up with 7 to 8000. This was burdensome for him but also too valuable to throw out, so he gave the huge collection to the Kangan Institute Richmond Campus –in Cremorne St—centre of fashion and decorative art. They’re organising it at present and it will be catalogued over a period of time. It will be available to design students soon and also to the general public. It is a truly unique collection and of great historical value.

1:13:27 to 1:29:34mins—Dale Hardiman is an Industrial Designer and Curator who (together with another curator Suzannah Henty) has put together their 3rd design Exhibition at the Linden New Art Gallery in St Kilda. It’s called Object Future III and is on from 4 December to 28 February. They’re exhibiting the works of 6 new and well-known design studios. The theme of the exhibition is ‘process’ where designers document what went into producing their end product. Dale and Suzannah wanted to provide an opportunity for designers to have free reign for a year and produce products which didn’t have to be commercially viable which often results in amazing and innovative designs. This year the money came from arts funding via the gallery while the previous two were self-funded.
