Interview: Jack Carty

Katie Purvis had a chat on 21 August with Brisbane-based singer-songwriter Jack Carty about his stunning new album, Home State. Jack was on the phone from Sydney the morning after a gig that was part of a tour that took him across Australia and over the ditch to New Zealand. He talked about recording the album in his apartment, the inspiration behind some of the tracks, and the joys of performing live alongside his tour guests Emily Barker and Jordan Millar.

Home State is Jack’s fourth album. In 2015 he toured Australia with Darren Hanlon and Ingrid Michaelson, completed a solo tour of Europe and the UK, got married, and received an APRA Professional Development Award. This year he has done more touring through the UK and Europe, including an appearance at Spain’s Primavera festival, and played a 34-date tour of regional Australia with Josh Pyke. In October he heads back to the UK for more touring.
