2 for 1! Just.Equal launches Vic and Tas Campaigns

LGBTIQ community advocacy group Just.equal have launched two campaigns this week to put pressure on Victorian and Tasmanian State legislation that is being voted on soon. Both states are considering bills that that will change their State’s discrimination exceptions.

Just.Equal is a new organisation aimed at addressing ongoing equality issues with public engagement.

In Victoria, the Protection Not Exception campaign is aimed at Vic MPs, encouraging them to removing anti-LGBTI exemptions from the state Equal Opportunity Act.

Under current laws, Victoria faith-based agencies and schools are allowed to discriminate against LGBTI employees, clients and students.

And in Tasmania, the Protect Respect campaign aims to stop the passing of an Anti-Discrimination Amendment bill that would extend religious freedoms to allow hateful, humiliating and offensive statements on the basis of gender, race, sexuality and disability.
