In the first episode of This Australian Life we delve into the life and amazing story of Elle (name changed for anonymity). Elle since the age of 14 suffered from mental illness which manifested as an eating disorder and later as an addiction to drugs and alcohol. In and out of institutions, Elle is with us today clean and sober at the age of 23* to discuss her journey with us.
In the second half of our show we have a unique opportunity to speak with Bruce, Elle’s father. In this segment we hear about what it what was like for Bruce to both witness and participate in Elle’s life, to watch his daughter struggle with something he ultimately couldn’t fix.
