/ Triple Bi-Pass / Arts / Karma Dance And Bent Bollywood, With Special Guests Raina Peterson And Govind Pillai

This week, Ruby, Anthony and Jess are joined by Raina and Govind to talk about their Midsumma performance Bent Bollywood. Bent Bollywood is a queer dance show that combines the technical rigor of classical Indian dance, the camp theatrics of Bollywood and everything that is weird and wonderful about queer performance art.

Melbourne-based Raina Peterson and Govind Pillai are magnificent classical Indian dancer and queer performance artists. Blending the physicality and technical skill of Indian dance with queer performance artistry.

We talk about Raina and Govind’s experiences with being both queer and Indian and how they translate this into a performance, as well as queer expression and some of the issues that affect queer people of color in Australia.

You can check out more Bent Bollywood here, and see Raina and Govind at Midsumma from the 25th of Jan until the 3rd of Feb at the Brunswick Mechanics Performing Arts Centre.
