Triple X Show 368 – 1/4/18 – Gary Wright/INXS/Pink Floyd/The Slits/Julie and Gordon and Gordon the Moron/Aussies and More

Show 367

Really Wanna Know You by Gary Wright.  A 1981 single, 5 years after his one big hit, Dream Weaver and almost 3 decades after he made his singing debut as a child actor on Broadway – he appeared in 888 shows of Fanny, alongside Florence Henderson…aka Carol Brady!

+Another Time by Arthur Conley. Thanks to Ray last week! This is the B-side to his 1976 single of I Got You Babe, which I couldn’t find. We got the deets on him from Ray last week but basically, gay man who moved to the Netherlands to live as himself.

+I Don’t Wanna Talk About It by Lee Roberts and the Sweaters. Performed on Dutch TV, this is also Arthur Conley…but in 1988 he had changed his stage name.

+A Woman’s Love by Alix Dobkin. From the 1992 compilation, Love and Politics, A 30 Year Saga but she wrote the ballad back in the ’70s. One reviewer calls her ‘one of the foremothers of women’s music,’ and says ‘it was recorded with a simple folk arrangement with Kay Gardner’s caressing flute a gorgeous addition.’

We Are all Prostitutes by The Pop Group. Request.

Love Vigilantes by New Order. Request.

*Don’t Change by INXS. Request.

Keep Talking by Pink Floyd. Request.

Two Pints Of Lager and A Packet Of Crisps by Splodgenessabounds.  An English punk rock band formed in South London. Their frontman is Max Splodge.  This is a 1980 single from their early days.

Take Good Care of Me by Rachel Sweet. From her second album, Protect the Innocent, released in 1980 when she was just 18…her debut came out when she was 16. It really sounds like a lot of other pop music from the 80s and for that, I like it.

Typical Girls by The Slits. Request.

There Goes Norman by The Undertones. A punk rock/new wave band formed in Derry, Northern Ireland, in 1975. From the period of 1975 to 1983, the Undertones consisted of Feargal Sharkey on lead, John O’Neill, Damian O’Neill, Michael Bradley and Billy Doherty. This is from their second album, Hypnotised, released in 1980.

Aussies – D

*April sun in Cuba by Dragon. From their 1977 album, Running Free. Kiwis, but we count them. For the first of April! There was another track by Aussies, called In April and from an ABC tv compilation but unavailable anywhere…so the theme is D.

*Hi Honey Ho by Daddy Cool. From the 1975 EP, The D.C. Hits E.P.

*This is It by Dannii Minogue. 1993 single, the first by her that I knew.

*Pick up the Pieces by The Discoettes. From their 1976 album, Disco Dance Party.

*Motion by Divinyls. This was on a promo album that featured half Divinyls tracks and half Pat Benatar tracks! How awesome is that?! They were both recording for Chrysalis at the time…1985.

*King of Moomba by Do Re Mi. I’m a weekend or two late for this but I just found it! 1988, The Happiest Place in Town, their 2nd album.

Sometimes it Snows in April by Prince. Request.

Breakfast by The Associates. 1985 track from Perhaps, their 3rd studio album. Same year.

A Little Time by The Beautiful South. 1990. I used this song in my ESL class this week and can’t get it out of my mind. Watch the video if you can. I really like the woman’s part!

Eighth Day by Hazel O’Connor. Track from the 1980 film, Breaking Glass, starring Hazel herself. It was co-produced by Dodi Fayed…much more famous for dying with Princess Diana. I had no idea he had done anything of note.

Jilted John by Jilted John. Novelty song by Graham Fellowes in 1978. The track was such a hit that it inspired three follow up tracks by Julie and Gordon and Gordon the Moron.

Gordon’s not a Moron by Julie and Gordon. The reply song, which wasn’t the hit the first one was. Also from 1978.

Fit for Nothing by Gordon the Moron. The second follow up track, this one by Bernard Kelly in 1979. This is the worst song of the series…

J J Julie Yippee Yula by Julie and Gordon. Third follow up in the series. From 1979.
