American Samoa: Kicking Goals

Asia/Pacific

The World Wide Wave team traveled across the Pacific Ocean to explore gay life in the oasis of American Samoa.

In the macho world of international soccer, just how much acceptance is there for a transgender player? Why did it take the tiny island state of American Samoa to blaze the trail in this area? What was Australia’s role in bringing about the development of the world’s first transgender professional football player?

To understand gay life in American Samoa, we spoke with Jaiyah Saelua – the world’s first transgender professional footballer.

Find out more on W3JOY’s American Samoa homepage.
