Been There Done That

24 Jun 2015

Kinsey, Haggard, Turing, Matlovich, Somerville & George Michael

Gay, History, Icons

This week we reflect upon the sexologist Alfred Kinsey who ‘practised what he preached’ and Ted Haggard, US evangelist, who practised the opposite of what he preached.

We remember two gay war heroes who were punished for their sexuality– Alan Turing, code breaker and pioneering computer scientist in WW2 and Leonard Matlovich a decorated Vietnam veteran, race relations instructor and gay activist.

We follow by talking about Jimmy Somerville, singer and activist and George Michael, singer and bad boy activist.
