This week we remember some birthdays, beginning with Karen Carpenter and then Dusty Springfield – both of whom were plagued with body image and then social acceptance issues.

We talk about the positive ‘outing’ stories from some of Australia’s elite athletes and the apology by NSW parliament of the police treatment of social protesters who spawned the Sydney Mardi Gras march.

We are reminded of the life stories of Matt Lucas, Chas Bono and Lou Reed [of ‘Walk on the Wild Side’ fame].

We connect the stories of the first newspaper in Australia, of Alexander Graham Bell and his invention of the telephone to provide intimate connections [and now social media], of mobile phones and computers, and the introduction of colour TV in Australia 1975 at this time.
