Comp Mouse, Failed Bills, R.Hudson, V.Russo, JFK shot, Suez Canal

This week, Phil tells us about the development of the computer mouse, and we consider the failure of the recent gay Plebiscite Bill and the 1999 Referendum for the Australian Republic.

We celebrate the birthdays of Hollywood film-star Rock Hudson and remember how he personalised the onset of the AIDS crisis in the 1980s; we also remember Vito Russo the producer of the revealing film ‘The Celluloid Closet’ – chronicling gay life in Hollywood – and who died of complications of the AIDS virus, just five years after Rock.

As we remember the assassination of US President J.F.Kennedy in 1963 and the mystery of ‘who did it’, we reflect upon the apparent lawlessness of the US citizenry who killed 5 of their Presidents, as well as the current high rate of gun-deaths in the general population.

We reflect upon the construction of the Suez Canal with a huge loss of life of the workers, and the losses of life from natural events and how we now seem to value human life far more than previously.

Plus some trivia and mirth and much more ….
