The Wangaratta Festival of Jazz and Blues for 2020 has been confirmed as an ONLINE festival this year – their 30th festival – commencing Monday October 26 and concluding Sunday November 1, 2020.
Co-Artistic Director Eugene Ball chats with David Moyle about the impact of restrictions associated with controlling the COVID-19 pandemic in Victoria resulting in the Artistic team, (Eugene, Zoe Hauptman, Scott Solimo), creating at least six different plans for the festival over the past twelve months. He also reflects on the challenges for a musician when performing to an online audience.
Eugene previews some of the features of this years program,
- the National Jazz Awards where the ten Finalists (Voice) will be recording their submissions in their hometown for transmission as the initial feature across the first five nights of the Online festival
- inclusion of historic archival material from the 1986 Australian Jazz Convention co-presented with the AJM (Australian Jazz Museum)
- co-presentations with organisations such as COMA (Creative Original Music Adelaide), The MJC (Melbourne Jazz Cooperative), and SIMA (Sydney Improvised Music Association), and the Sydney International Women’s Jazz Festival
- the free community program from the local Wangaratta musicians.
Eugene Ball was guest of Bent Notes on Sunday October 4, 2020
Bent Notes – 2 hours of Jazz and Improvised Music – 7 o’clock every Sunday night
