Surprisingly this is the very first feature film documentary ever made about Dr Maya Angelou, the iconic African American woman activist and poet, artist, dancer, actress and humanitarian.

‘Maya Angelou was born as Marguerite Johnson on April 4th, 1928, in St. Louis, Missouri and raised in St. Louis and Stamps, Arkansas. Maya Angelou became one of the most renowned and influential voices of our time. With over 50 honorary doctorate degrees Dr. Maya Angelou became a celebrated poet, memoirist, educator, dramatist, producer, actress, historian, filmmaker, and civil rights activist.’

The creator of this important documentary Rita Coburn Whack relates her own journey and experience as a Woman of Colour in the United States with the life of Maya Angelou.

President Barack Obama presented Maya Angelou with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the country’s highest civilian honor in 2010.

“You may encounter many defeats, but you must not be defeated.”
