Kicking off our new music this week is local-boy-made-good Generik. Currently working DJ residencies in both Las Vegas and Sydney and planning to tour Europe for the northern summer, he’s found time to push out his latest single and score an Australian club chart #1. Late at Night has plenty of pop radio crossover appeal as well, and we’re happy to be on board.

A new production-and-performance trio from Melbourne, The Engagement, have teamed up with out-and-proud producer and singer Valence – which is the stage name of sometime JOY volunteer Chris Nicolaou. Their debut single, Closer, is an 80s synth-pop throwback with hints of Pet Shop Boys and Depeche Mode.

Aussie singer-songwriter Cleopold currently calls LA home and is known for his collaborations with Miami Horror and Chet Faker. He’s releasing his debut solo album on 10 June and the third single, Not Coming Down, is a lovely slice of dream-pop heaven.

New York duo The Disco Fries have teamed up with Britain’s Got Talent 2012 semi-finalist Hope Murphy for Born Ready, lifted from their 2015 EP Autonomous. The Halogen mix was recently rated #1 on the Hype Machine and is set to take club charts and radio around the world by storm.

Danish pop band Lukas Graham, fronted by lead singer Lukas Graham Forchhammer, recently achieved 3 x platinum for their debut single, ‘7 Years’, in Australia. The follow-up, Mama Said, is completely different but we love it and think you will too.

French producer Martin Solveig has been gracing our airwaves for many years. His collaborations are always interesting and this time he’s working with Zimbabwean-born Australian hip-hop singer-songwriter, Tkay Maidza. ‘Do It Right’ is a blend of dance and urban styles that we think puts Solveig at the forefront of what’s hot right now – and we love supporting our Australian talent!

Last, but certainly not least, is Welsh out-and-proud singer-songwriter Rod Thomas. Under his stage name of Bright Light Bright Light (or BLx2), he has a new album out mid-July, and the first single has him teaming up for a second time with veteran star Elton John. All in the Name is bright sparkly pop and it has a video to match. Elton and Rod performed together recently on The Graham Norton Show.

Set your alarm and tune into Michael on the six at six for the newest songs to the mix, every weekday at 6am Melbourne time.
