17 Apr 2019

New music to weekdays (17 April 2019)

New music additions

BTS ft Halsey Boy with Luv (The Orchard / SME / Big Hit)
Avicii ft Aloe Blacc SOS (UMA / Geffen)
Ellie Goulding Sixteen (UMA / POL)
Jessica Mauboy Sunday (SME)

Combine the world’s biggest K-pop group with one of our favourite bisexual singers and you’ve got a song that we’re proud to play on JOY. Becoming the first K-pop group to be certified gold in Australia, BTS are finally setting the world on fire with their music. RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Park Jimin, V and Jung Kook debuted in 2013, but it wasn’t until their 2016 release ‘Blood Sweat & Tears’ that the group started to get some worldwide attention. ‘Boy with Luv’ comes off the back of the ARIA Top 50 hits Fake Love and Idol, with the accompanying video breaking all YouTube records to be the most watched video in its first 24 hours, racking up over 78 million views. The addition of American Halsey gives this pop track what it needs to become a commercial smash, and we think you’ll love hearing something different during the day.

One year has gone by since Avicii‘s unexpected death, and in that time his family has been working to release the music the Swedish superstar had been creating before his death. Producers Albin and Kristoffer were given permission to finish the album that was close to completion, and the lead single from it has been released. SOS features the vocals of American singer Aloe Blacc, who Avicii always wanted to have sing for him again after Wake Me Up. With Tim due on 6 June, we look forward to hearing more of what this EDM genius was thinking before he left us.

English singer Ellie Goulding has dropped a bop that takes us back to our teenage days. Ellie says ‘Sixteen’ recounts “the reckless days of being a teenager [and] reminds us all about the innocence of youth”. The new single is a follow-up to Ellie’s platinum-selling ‘Close to Me’ and marks another point in a very successful career. It’s bound to be one of your newest earworms.

A year ago, Jessica Mauboy wowed Europe with We Got Love. She’s been a busy bee since and recently finished her fourth studio album, due later in the year. With ‘Sunday’, Jess delivers a song that speaks of her love for her family. It has a different sound than some of her past releases, but we think it will add a nice edge to the daytime mix.
