The Sound of Summer #6: Never a Crime and #Romeoandjuliet

So Dan is 30 now and thanks to Jacq he has his Carnival outfit ready to go. This is our Pre-Midsumma Carnival episode and there’s heaps to get through.

First off, a change of pace for our little show.

Dr Catherine Barrett and Photographer Lisa White are in to talk about their collaboration “Never a Crime.” This amazing exhibition looks at the historic oppression of gay and bisexual men by law and society that sought to create a sense of shame around homosexuality. In 2015 the State Government implemented a scheme to expunge historical convictions for homosexual sex between consenting adults and in 2016 the Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews apologized for the way gay and bisexual men were treated. The Never a Crime project addresses this shame. The project includes a series of workshops for gay and bisexual men to share their stories and build a sense of Pride in who they are – because Pride is the opposite of shame.

Never a Crime is on at The Abbotsford Convent throughout Midsumma Festival.

Joining Jacq and Dan next is the wonderful Kimberly Twiner from #romeroandjuliet. Kimberly talks all things clowning, the stupidity of young love and saves a burning celebrity!

#romeoandjuliet is on at La mama Theatre from Jan 16-21 for Midsumma.
