Show 364

Dickie Davies Eyes by Half Man Half Biscuit. Merseyside band (UK) from their third album, ACD, released in 1989.

+Homecomings by Honey is Cool. From their 1995 EP, Focky Focky No Pay… It’s LGBTI for bisexual artist Karin Elisabeth Dreijer. She, like the band, is Swedish.

+I was There by Green Day. From their 1990 debut album, 39/Smooth. Track written by their original drummer, John Kiffmeyer, who left the band after this album. It’s LGBTI for Billie Joe Armstrong, their bisexual lead vocalist.

Did you know that Carol Burnett’s daughter, Erin Hamilton, is openly bisexual? Now you do.

+I want it All Night Long by Heather Hunter. Former porn star turn rap artist from Brooklyn, NY. This is her debut single from 1993. She’s openly bisexual.

The Revolutionary Spirit by The Wild Swans. Another indie UK band. Their 1982 debut single, not from an album.

Indiepop Ain’t Noise Pollution by The Pooh Sticks. Welsh band active till 1995. Their third single, released in 1988.

Lubricate your Living Room, part 1 by The Fire Engines. Post punk from Scotland. This one’s from 1981.

Wild Horses by Gino Vanelli. Request from 2 weeks ago…thank you, Ray! 1987

Crash by The Primitives. 1988, their biggest hit. They were from Coventry in the UK.

Lazyitis by The Happy Mondays. Second single from their second album, Bummed, released in 1988. The single didn’t come out till the following year, though. I always think of these guys as ‘90s rather than ‘80s but they actually did quite a bit in the ‘80s.

Crawl Babies by The Pastels. Appears to be the only single released from their 1987 debut album, Up for a Bit with the Pastels..though the single is a year older. They are a Glaswegian indie band.

Aussies – T

*Stand Up by The Triffids.  Formed in Perth in May 1978 with David McComb as singer-songwriter, guitarist, bass guitarist and keyboardist. They achieved negligible success in Australia, but greater success in the U.K. and Scandinavia in the 1980s, till they disbanded in 1989. This is their debut single, 1981.

+*Koori Woman by Tiddas.  From their 1991 EP, Inside my Kitchen. Featuring lesbian artist Lou Bennett.

*I love how you Love Me by Teen Queens.  1992 release from this Australian girl group made up of singer/actresses Kellie Hoggart, Liza Witt, and Roxanne Clark. All three formed the group in 1990 with the intention of getting a TV program off the ground about a girl group in 1960s Sydney. But when the pilot was turned down the trio decided to make the group a reality, which would pay off in 1992 when their remake of “Be My Baby” became a #6 hit on the ARIA chart. Their album Get Happy! was released in November 1992 and charted at #36.  They broke up in 1993.

*I wanna Be a Celebrity by The Thought Criminals. Sydney punk band active till 1981.

*I’m Interested in Apathy by TISM. (an acronym of This Is Serious Mum) From their 1988 album Great Truckin’ Songs of the Renaissance, their second.

*Space Friends by Tumbleweed. B-side to their 1991 debut single, Captain’s Log.

+House of Love by RuPaul. Request.

Rattlesnakes by Lloyd Cole and the Commotions. Title track from their 1984 debut album. They, too, are Scottish.

Revolution by Spacemen 3. 1989 release from this English alternative rock band, formed in 1982 in Rugby, Warwickshire by Peter Kember and Jason Pierce.

Everything Flows by Teenage Fanclub. Scottish band with a sound that is reminiscent of Californian bands like the Beach Boys and the Byrds. Their 1990 debut single.

Destroy the Heart by The House of Love. Formed in London in 1986 by singer-songwriter-guitarist Guy Chadwick and co-founder and lead-guitarist Terry Bickers. 1988 single, not included on an album at the time.

Wire by Outdoor Miner. Released in January 1979 but it was on their album Chairs Missing from the previous year.
