Been There Done That

20 May 2015

Birthdays, Eurovision, Pride Match, Flying Technology & Railways

Gay, History, Icons, Lesbian

We celebrate birthdays of gay icons Miriam Margolyes, Cher, Mark Bingham (9/11 hero) and Harvey Milk (SF Mayor), learning about their part in the growing respect for gay martyrs. We also celebrate Joan Hammond (born 24 May 1912), a famous Australian soprano and golfer!

Eurovision Song Contest is upon us again, so we refer to Dana International (ESC 1998) and Conchita Wurst (ESC 2014). We mention Pride Match at Yarra Glen – football with gay pride against homophobia.

We talk about aerial surveys in outback Australia, advancing to satellite surveillance of the world; the leap into space as a by-product of war, and compare it with the glacial transformation of railway gauges in Australia. Plus some trivia and mirth …..
