Norwegian electronica duo Royksopp return after a two-year break with a very pretty mid-tempo piece, Running to the Sea, featuring the vocals of Norwegian platinum-selling artist Susanne Sundfør.
The first all-girl, all-dancing, all-singing ensemble out of Myanmar,which has a very clever name, has just been signed to an American boutique label. We have their first single, Girl Strong, under that new umbrella.
A new ballad from Britney Spears, co-written by Sia, demonstrates a rarely heard emotional quality of Britney’s voice.
We have Aussie music from Samantha Jade, with the follow-up to her two previous smash hits, “Firestarter” and “What You’ve Done to Me”. “Soldier” is set to be another hit.
An Aussie independent debut for Melbourne producer Steen James, aka “StrikeForce”. This is also the first release for new label Pop Fidelity, created by out-and-proud local producer Luke Nutley.
Another local out-and-proud producer, John Von Ahlen, teams with vocalist Amii Jackson to form Parralox. They have been a favourite here at JOY for some time. The second single, Eye in the Sky, from their new album of iconic 80s songs is just astoundingly good. The response so far (almost 60,000 YouTube views in six days) demonstrates we’re not the only ones who think John’s reworking of this 1982 hit by The Alan Parsons Project is his best work to date.
