With winter coming to a close and Melbourne edging ever closer to the end of lockdown, we’re celebrating with these brand-new releases fresh to the playlist.

We start with a bang thanks to K-pop’s most famous group. ‘Dynamite’ is the first English-language single for BTS and had over 100 million streams in its first 24 hours of release after 21 August. RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Park Jimin, V and Jung Kook have over 80 million followers across social media, and were the first Korean artists to achieve gold certification in Australia. If you want big, this is it!

Dreams keep coming true for queer Aussie singer Troye Sivan. His latest EP is out, along with its title single. ‘In a Dream’ is a bit of uptempo love from Troye that we reckon you’ll lap up.

Another title track from a new EP lands in the mix courtesy of queer Aussie singer-songwriter Wafia. She’s found the positives from the end of a relationship and explores them in ‘Good Things’. It’s a bop that’s made for singing along to.

Celia Pavey aka Vera Blue has broken into the American market with her recent signing to Republic Records. To celebrate, she’s released ‘Lie to Me’. It’s already taken Triple J by storm, and we reckon you’ll be loving it too.

We’re treated to a house banger this week from DJ-producer JaySounds and singer-songwriter Bianca. The Sydney-based pair have teamed up for ‘Control’, which has a thumping bass line, a bouncy midline and sexy vocals. It’s made for the club, so find an excuse to dance!

Sydney duo Pink Zinc have released their second single, featuring the writing and singing talent of one of our favourites in BOI. ‘Weapon’ brings together everything we love about dance music – keys, singalong vocals, funky beats and a surprising bridge. It’s a banger!

English singer-songwriter Michael Nelson aka BANNERS has been making music since 2015. In 2017, he released ‘Someone to You’. Fast forward to 2020 and the song has ended up in American Idol, Love, Victor and a commercial for an American phone company. It’s reminiscent of 2000s Aussie pop-rock, with a touch of Mumford, and we’re here for it.

Over the last few weeks, Europe has gone crazy for ‘Heads Shoulders Knees & Toes’ from French duo Ofenbach, German duo Quarterhead and American singer-songwriter Norma Jean Martine. It’s not the children’s rhyme you might be familiar with, but it’s certainly just as catchy. One listen and we reckon you’ll be feeling it from head to toe.

Keep dancing with German DJ-production duo VIZE and their latest, ‘Never Let Me Down’. The track features British singer Tom Gregory and has already been streamed over 73 million times across the world. Don’t be surprised if you’re singing “Down-down-duh-duh-duh-duh-down-down” on repeat after hearing this one.

Back in 2013, Melbourne-based producer Steen James debuted as StrikeForce and made his radio debut with JOY legends Chris and Cam. His first release, ‘One Day at a Time’, was a huge hit and became a JOY favourite. The song has been reworked by a few production legends, including out-and-proud Parralox, who you might know better as John Von-Ahlen from Neon Nights. It overflows with disco and is a ready-made elixir for the shitshow that has been 2020.
