Research shows, homophobic violence and harassment is vastly under-reported in Victoria with seven out of ten people not reporting the issue to police in metropolitan areas. It’s even worse in regional Victoria with nine out of ten people not reporting these incidences.

Last Monday’s program on the prevalence of homophobic violence and harassment in Victoria opened up a can of worms and encouraged more community members to have their say on the issue.

This week, Stephanie McLean speaks to Joe Fujimaki, a university student from Melbourne about his personal experience with homophobic harassment.

“I think anybody who has suffered any kind of injustice, you’d hope they would be listened to”.

Deputy Commissioner, Andrew Krisp from Victoria Police also joins us to spread an important message of support to the LGBTI community in Victoria.

“Diversity unfortunately threatens some people and manifests itself, at times, in violence. It’s wrong and we want those instances reported to us”.

Shannon Power from the Star Observer stops in to have a chat about the AFL’s proposed new policy on homophobia.
