Addressing racism in Melbourne’s gay community
Matthew Wade and Aziz Abu-Bakr

Matthew Wade and Aziz Abu-Bakr

Last week The Age highlighted the issue of racism in the gay community when a young Aboriginal man posted screenshots of the racist abuse he’d faced on gay dating apps.

Two young queer men, Aziz Abu-Bakr and Muhammed Taha, chat with The Informer about the racism they’ve encountered in the gay community.

Abu-Bakr discusses the white “gaytriarchy” in Melbourne and stereotypes on Grindr, and Taha talks about being seen by gay white men as their ‘token’ friend of colour.

Presented by: Matthew Wade
