JOY’s podcast reach continues to grow

Thanks to our program production team – a crew of around 50 volunteers led by JOY production manager Jason Gipps – our podcast service hit a new high for the month of June. Following on from a successful May, when we reached our highest monthly download figures on record (a total of 49,998 downloads), we achieved 64,160 during June – an increase of over 14,000 downloads in just one month.

Jason said, ‘This is a huge result, made possible by a dedicated bunch of hardworking people who are passionate about making content available to our growing global podcast community. Making our great on-air content available online is a no-brainer, and instrumental for the success of our podcast service – but it’s been helped by JOY presenters effectively promoting the content on their programs and through their social media, and asking their guests to share the content with their own followers, thereby utilising the far reach on social media that many of our interviewees have.’

Jason explained that much work is being done on producing promotional material and airing it to encourage our existing FM audience to experience our podcast service: ‘In the past few months I have produced individual promotional material especially to showcase our quality podcast-only products, such as Richard Eric’s INTO THE GROOVE, Peter Reynolds’ LA SPINZ entertainment news podcast, and the newly returned VIC POLICE GLLO SHOW, hosted by a range of JOY presenters and Victoria Police LGBTI liaison officers.’

About two years ago Jason coined the slogan ‘Podcasts where you want them, when you want them, at JOY.org.au‘, and now more and more people are taking the opportunity to listen to their favourite JOY Breakfast and Drive programs on demand on their daily commute, as well as enjoying our specialist music programs as they work out, or listening to our news and current affairs programs as they get on top of domestic work.
