JOY 94.9 is ready for the live coverage of the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras 2020!
Sydney’s most vibrant queer community event, Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras 2020, is happening this weekend and JOY 94.9 will be broadcasting live from the parade this Saturday 29th with the support of Salesforce.
JOY 94.9 Program Director Rachel Tyler Jones says “JOY won the CBAA award for Best Special Event Broadcast for our Mardi Gras coverage last year, so we’ve got our work cut out to go bigger and better this year, but I know our team is up to the challenge. We’ll be working hard to make sure we showcase the voices of our community, while also bringing our listeners the live coverage of the parade“.
Ti Butler, Rachel Morrison, Jordan Johnstone, Dee Mason with producer Con Keramitsis, will be broadcasting live from the parade, while street reporters Nicholas Hynes, Kate Payne and Tom Morgan will be providing live interviews with parade participants throughout the event, taking the opportunity to reflect on this year’s Mardi Gras theme of “What Matters”. In addition, social media reporters Alejandra Laiton and Luke Mitchell, will be covering the event from every angle.
Rachel Tyler Jones (Broadcast EP), Michael Strauss (Broadcast IT), Ange Barry (JOY representative) and Gail Davidson (Photography) will also be supporting the event.
“I’m so excited to be part of this broadcast which brings together so many of our LGBTIQA+ communities for the biggest party of the year while recognising our history and looking forward to our future“, says presenter Ti Butler.
JOY volunteers Frock Hudson, Anastasia Le, Justin Edge and Alex Dislakis will be on a float in the parade with our Mardi Gras sponsor Salesforce. “We’re partnering again with JOY 94.9, Australia’s out, loud and proud radio station, and the JOY 94.9 team including the inimitable Frock Hudson will join us to broadcast from the float. We know – the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals tell us – that partnership is essential to achieve the goals of reducing inequality and achieving gender equality” says Salesforce.
But also, the JOY team from the studio in Melbourne will be making sure that the broadcast is available on the 94.9 frequency in Melbourne and on JOY’s livestream at joy.org.au. David Moyle, Judy Kelly and Clayton Wimshurst will be the broadcast’s panel operators, Arion Potts will be the in-studio producer, and Jack Traynor and Jason Gipps will make up the production team.
Thank you to everyone who is making sure that this event will be memorable for JOY!
JOY 94.9’s live coverage of the 2020 Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras starts Saturday, February 29, from 7:00pm.
You can tune in via 94.9FM in Melbourne, or on JOY’s livestream at joy.org.au.
