For six months now, Brisbane-based band Sheppard have been releasing new music. This month, it’s the uplifting anthem ‘Symphony’ that is dropping into your playlist. George Sheppard explains that the track “is about someone who was living without inspiration, but finds himself bursting with music, colour and creativity after finding love”. We reckon you’ll be exploding with all the colours when you hear this one.

In celebration of Pride Month, British producer The Shapeshifters teamed up with gay American all-rounder Billy Porter to release ‘Finally Ready’. The song rejoices in breaking free from past traumas to take a chance on love, and is an instant dance-floor staple. It’s bright, happy, full of life and made for JOY.

After a seven-year absence, it’s a delight to have Aussie band Eskimo Joe back on the scene. With all that’s going on around us, ‘Say Something’ urges us to speak out about the injustices that we see. The song’s driving beat and explosion of guitars make it a big return for this award-winning rock band.

Aussie singer-songwriter Kita Alexander has made a mistake and is owning it in her new single. ‘I Miss You, I’m Sorry’ is a reflection of turning inwards rather than pointing the finger at someone else, and taking control of the choices you’ve made in your life. Go on a journey with Kita and find yourself in a bop that you’ll be strumming out to and singing along with.

Rip your clothes off, grab your bass guitar and groove along to something new from Jonas Blue. The British producer features the vocals of American singer-songwriter MAX for ‘Naked’, which is made for a cheeky romp around the lounge room while you’re working away in iso. Give it a listen or two and we reckon the guitar line will embed itself into your brain.

Caring for your mental health has been really important in this time of isolation, but it can also be difficult to talk about for some. Melbourne-based singer-songwriter Mike Waters turned his personal story of depression into a song that asks us to share how we’re feeling. ‘I’m Doing Fine’ is a strummy bop with a message: It’s OK to take the weight off with someone’s help (If you need someone to talk to, contact one of the organisations at joy.org.au/support).

Known best as part of Aussie hip-hop trio Thundamentals, Brendan Tuckerman aka Tuka is also quite the solo artist. His third album, Nothing In Common But Us, is set for release on 31 July and its lead single is a change to his usual sound. ‘Wish I Knew’ sees the Sydneysider move from hip-hop to deep house, with a punchy chorus, synthy interludes and an earworm of a hook. We think you’ll appreciate it.

She might only be 13, but Izellah already has a fair amount of experience in the music scene. Having played Matilda on stage and been part of Universal Studios Japan’s live shows, the Gold Coast singer-songwriter journeyed to LA and New York last year to work with some of the world’s biggest writers and producers. She’s released a number of singles already, including one in Indonesian that got our neighbours talking, and has just been named as a finalist in this year’s Gold Coast Women of the Year Awards. Her newest song is ‘Stop’, a breezy piece of pop with a warning to anyone who wants to bring the drama.
