Queer and Differently Abled Identity in LGBT Cinema with Directors Ian Watson & Suzanne Guacci

This week on Out Takes, we’re looking at the ways in which differently abled, LGBT lives are represented in queer cinema. And here’s a spoiler: they rarely are. The question is why.

To help us unpack this fraught question we’re joined by directors Ian Watson and Suzanne Guacci.

Watson is the director of UNSOUND, the tender new Australian feature that recently took out an award for best film at the Melbourne Queer Film Festival.

Guacci is the director of T11 INCOMPLETE, a compassionate romance that screened at the Mardi Gras Film Festival.

Both films explore the intersection of queer and differently abled identities in fresh and nuanced ways that challenge the relative lack of representation that has heretofore marked our screens.
