GiveOUT Day returns for 2022

What is GiveOut Day?

GiveOUT Day is a national day of giving to LGBTIQ+ projects, community groups, and not-for-profit organisations. Donations to LGBTIQ+ organisations on GiveOUT Day are doubled* (*Up to $1500 per organisation, see T&Cs) and each donation goes directly to the LGBTIQ+ organisation or project you’ve donated to.

In its fourth year, GiveOUT Day provides LGBTIQ+ organisations with the opportunity to build awareness of their causes, raise funds for vital services, engage with supporters, and expand their networks. Excitingly, this year, GiveOUT is increasing the amount of matched funding available per organisation. In 2022, $1,500 per organisation will be available until the matched funding pool is exhausted.

But why?

Everyone has the right to feel included, accepted, supported and safe but in Australia 1 in 2 LGBTIQ+
people still keep their identity a secret due to fear of discrimination in the workplace, social settings
or at home**.

Despite winning the right to marry, LGBTIQ+ communities continue to face discrimination. This leads
to school and workplace bullying, homelessness, increased food insecurity, barriers to health care,
rising unemployment, isolation, poor mental health outcomes, and suicide.

Despite this, programs and organisations supporting LGBTIQ+ communities remain some of the most
underfunded by philanthropy. At least 1 in 10 Australians identify as LGBTIQ+, yet only 5 cents in
every 100 dollars of all philanthropic funding flows through to the LGBTIQ+ community.

LGBTIQ+ organisations are the first responders for the community, working tirelessly to increase
access to services, promote equal rights, and provide much needed relief and resources. But
almost half the LGBTIQ+ organisations in Australia, operated on less than $10,000 in 2021.
LGBTIQ+ organisations already do a lot with very little, but together we can change that.
