Diary of a Work Experience Student – Remus

Diary of a Work Experience Student – Remus

This week we had the delightful honour of hosting Remus, a 15 year old student who undertook work experience with us this at our Victorian Pride Centre studios.

Hey Remus! Tell us a little bit about yourself and what you love spending your time doing.

My hobbies include reading books, writing and drawing. I’m interested in marvel, batman and other movies/books. I enjoy doing drama, writing plays and directing, and I’m very passionate about lgbtq+ rights and anything creative.

Why did you want to do work experience at JOY Media?

I thought that JOY Media would be a great, educational experience that I wouldn’t get anywhere else. Plus, I’ve always been interested in making podcasts or radios, and I love production and music. And of course it was a bonus that it’s queer.

What do you like about JOY?

I love everything about it! The atmosphere is so lovely and everyone is so kind and helpful. The music they play is really good (I’ve been listening to it for the past few months), and everyone’s really entertaining. I also love how it’s always promoting amazing queer & important things.

What has been a key thing you’ve learnt this week?

Just in general I’ve definitely learnt much more about how radio works and all the different components and jobs that can come with it, it’s definitely much more complex and interesting than I originally thought it was.

What has been your favourite part of your work experience at JOY?

I really enjoyed getting to be in the studio and watching the presenters create what goes on air at JOY, it’s been a really cool insight into what it’s like to be behind the microphone.

What lessons do you hope to take from your time at JOY into your own life?

I learnt lots about using computers, setting up an event, organising and creating indexes for various things, and of course how working at a radio station works. I think many of these skills will be useful in many aspects of my life, and especially so if I decide to pursue a career in radio & media.

But also I’d just like to take on the positive and welcoming energy that all of JOY holds.
