Pay-day for play’s producers
Sell-out performances of “8” The Play, Dustin Lance-Black’s landmark play about marriage equality, have enabled the Producers to hand over cheques to three LGBTI community organisations
Nearly $3600.00 was raised from the performances held earlier this year at Chapel Off Chapel during the 25th anniversary of Midsumma, benefiting JOY 94.9, Minus18 and the ENUF HIV stigma campaign.
The play’s producers, Stephen and Michelle Barber, met with representatives from each organisation yesterday to hand over the cheques.
“Money aside, this has been the most rewarding experience for Michelle and me,” explained Stephen Barber.
“Our lives have been changed forever by the people that came together to be a part of this production and we cannot thank Melbourne’s gay and lesbian community enough.” Mr Barber said.
The success of this production has inspired the husband and wife team to do more for the community and whilst Stephen is planning his next hit for Midsumma 2014, Michelle is busy doing the Taste of Radio course at JOY 94.9
