JOY 94.9 invites you to SHAG

JOY 94.9, Australia’s only Gay & Lesbian Radio Station, invites you and your friends to participate in a special outside broadcast LIVE from the Old Bendigo Fire Station this Sunday 28th April.

Hi, Dean Beck here, Producer of JOY 94.9’s 2013 Sexual Health and Gender Outreach for LGBTI youth in Bendigo – proudly sponsored by Family Planning Victoria’s “Mind The Gap” project.

Having spent the first 18 years of my life growing up in Bendigo I know all too well, what it is like to spend every day of ones entire schooling life, being bullied.

My privileged family background acted as no insulation to the constant taunts and physical abuse that were a part of my every day existence.

As a young gay man struggling to come to terms with his sexuality, the lack of understanding, social isolation and dark shadows of depression only left me, when I left Bendigo.

For me, it was only safe to “come-out” when I moved to Melbourne to further my studies.

So much has changed since then – The SHAG Roadshow enables us to showcase the many great resources and organisations available to today’s youth, both in Bendigo and Melbourne.

Furthermore, there are some wonderful role models doing amazing things to support the health and wellbeing of LGBTI youth – some of whom will be a part of this fantastic event.

Later this week there will be a major announcement in the Bendigo media about who will be our special guest at the SHAG Roadshow – we hope you can be a part of it too.
